Children's Club Fall 2008 Newcomers: Call It Organic - Part I The adage goes: Accentuate the positive. That's just what several newcomers at Children's Club (March 9-11, 2008) did when they used the word "organic" in their company names. Might as well get the goods up front! Of the 17 lines below, nearly half employ all organic or part organic fibers. That's a positive response to conservation. In addition to commendable manufacturing principals, the collections below offer diverse looks, with clean silhouettes, and, in some cases, a strong vintage feeling.
LAYETTE AND UP ORGANIC COTTONTAIL Homebase: Teaneck, NJ DESIGNER: Susan Mussaffi Sizes: Girls and boys NB to 18 months; Wholesale prices: $5.50-$24 Mussaffi's debut collection of organic cotton layette wear and blankets includes simple solid basics embroidered with a tiny bunny and a few hand embroidered items.
Outstanding pieces: The delicate embroidery on the one-piece is charming.

This collection offers a small selection of all-organic basics and blankets. Their robes, in a reversible waffle/terry cloth are especially luxurious and the hand embroidery on the one-pieces is adorable.

She keeps the palette simple: cocoa, cream, sage and peach, so the items mix and match effortlessly.

LOOK ORGANICS Homebase: Oakland, CA DESIGNER: Emily Leucht Sizes: Girls and boys knits 6 months to 6 years, wovens 2T to 6 years; Wholesale prices: $14-$48 Leucht shows her commitment to conservation by employing all organic fibers and using low-impact dyes. Her love of nature is evident in the strong graphic designs of animals and vegetation printed on her tees and T-shirt dresses. Her palette of saturated vegetable hues is especially appealing.
Outstanding pieces: The wear everywhere twill coat looks delectable in a rich-as-plum-preserves hue.

PUNKSTER Homebase: New York, NY DESIGNER: Melissa Carpenter Sizes: Girls and boys 3 months to 4T; Wholesale prices: $28-$44 The company has been manufacturing slogan tees for several years; fall is the second season for their sportswear collection. The aesthetic for girls and boys combines the layered textures of European collections, and, with all the plaids, Western shirts and overall shapes, the good old U.S.A. too.

TWIRLS AND TWIGS Homebase: Northridge, CA DESIGNER: Shawna Dalton Sizes: Girls NB to 8 years; Wholesale prices: $15-$42 Dalton uses a mix of organic cotton and bamboo for the base of her pieces then "repurposes" cotton and other vintage finds. The results are environmentally sound clothing with a lot of personality.

VINTAGE KIT Homebase: Bath, England DESIGNER: Katherine Trigg Sizes: Girls and boys 3 months to 11 years; Wholesale prices: $28 average Kitt manufactures a collection with a strong vintage flavor. Among the funky, patched denim pieces, old fashioned graphic printed tees and sweet printed skirts, there are clean-lined classic coats, sweaters and separates.
