SUPPLIER SHOWCASE

ON THE INSIDE WITH TINA BARRY

Spring 2010 at Bubble New York: A Little Something Something - Part II

PATOUCHE

Homebase: Toronto, Canada

DESIGNER: Kessa Laxton

Sizes: Girls and Boys NB to 6 years; Wholesale prices: $8-$44

Laxton has something in common with the late, great Michael Jackson: Neverland. The designer channels the spirit of the fairy tale oasis into floating layers of light cotton, garden hues and her boyswear is meant for a day of make believe in the woods.

Outstanding piece: The Wendy Top and Flutter skirt bring back the Sixties with that decade's iconic olive and fuchsia color combination.

The Michael Darling romper sports a pirate print; an appropriate choice considering the designer's intention.

TODDLER AND UP:

IGLOO ISLAND

Homebase: New York, NY

DESIGNER: Sandra Stollar

Sizes: 4 to 14 years; Wholesale prices: $8-$30

The backbone of Stollar's line is easy Jersey basics that make elegant outfits worn together or paired with patterned pieces . For spring she's added some zany graphic patterned tees and a dress that would be right at home in a 1960's nightclub.

Outstanding piece: Can't you just see the "Mod Squad's" Peggy Lipton in this number, her long hair swinging, knee-high boots crashing against the sidewalk as she chases the bad guy?

SES PETITES MAINS

Homebase: San Francisco, CA

DESIGNER: Beth Miles

Sizes: 2T to 14 years; Wholesale prices for apparel: $29-$64, wholesale prices for Astulabee's dolls: $59 and $62

I've loved this line from the beginning and still do. Several years in, Miles' collection is as fresh, playful and wearable as always and her use of color is always right on. I wish I owned a pair of the denim sailor pants.

Outstanding pieces: Feminine shapes in strong neutrals have all the punch of brighter hues.

There's something very Katherine Hepburn about this outfit. Maybe it's the way the feminine ruffled collar plays against the jaunty cut of the sailor pants.

Here's a perfect pairing: Astulabee handworked Tiny Chic Creatures wearing outfits made from Ses Petites Main's fabrics. Regardless of the clothing, Zelda is charming.

WOVENPLAY

Homebase: New York, NY

DESIGNER: Katherine Edmonds

Sizes: 2 to 8 years; Wholesale prices: $14-$124

Imagine finding a box of old postcards in the attic. Open it to find sepia-toned images of glamorous women in strapless dresses, big gardenias pinned to their bodices, their mouths a vivid red. That's the aesthetic of this collection.

Outstanding pieces: Wonderful, personal pieces that bring something tender and wistful to the kids' market. That deep green satin two-piece breaks my heart.

The San Diego Hat Company offers a wide range of well made girls' and boys' hats.
