ON THE INSIDE WITH TINA BARRY

Early Fall 2010 Trends at the ENK Children's Club: Just Us Folks

Keeping to the little of this, little of that MO of the ENK Children's Club in January (10-12, 2010), collections that were exhibited offered immediate and Spring 2010 as well as a taste of early Fall 2010.

For fall, designers were showing lots of playful girls' separates with ruffles and great looking coats for girls and boys. I can sum up the prominent color in one word: purple. Lots of it in every incarnation. There's black, charcoal and electric blue, too.

As far as motifs go, look to the forest for mushrooms and the peasants that pick them. Yay for funghi!

THERE WILL BE:

-Ruffled tops with a dandy's cravat-like detail. The piece works as a tunic over narrow pants, under a jumper or paired with a short ruffled skirt.

Women's wear designer Phillip Lim does ruffles for fall and so does Go Gently Baby.

-Skirts are above the knee, ruffled but not overly voluminous.

-Girls' pants are as narrow as leggings.

Pinc Premium's denim leggings.

-Boys' pants are comfortably slim with generous pockets in the front or cargo pockets on the side.

Pockets at the top and bottom make these pants a boy's perfect cup of Tea.

-Boys look dandy in knit or wool vests.

-Coats make a strong statement. Sportswear items include lots of double-breasted pieces, belted trench styles and pea coats for boys. Luxurious wools, velvets and velveteens and novelty metallics lend a couture feeling.

Double-breasted charmer from Baby CZ.

Newcomer Comus L Kids' novelty gold trench with a removable hood.

-For casual wear, chiseled puffers (there's an oxymoron for you), some belted, give a flattering shape to the cold weather favorite. Look for nylon, or shiny metallic racer, windbreaker and motorcycle shapes.

Plum perfect puffer and coordinates from 3 Pommes.

Kapital K's electric blue windbreaker and updated polo shirt race into fall.

THERE WILL BE:

-An emphasis on fantasy-related patterns: Think Sergeant Pepper and children's book illustrations. Owls are still hooting, but my bet is on mushrooms as the next big motif.

Baby Lulu's sweet take on the mushroom.

Newcomer My World by Green Cotton likes their funghi on the bright side.

-Folkloric motifs either printed or embroidered.

Me Too's Sixties' inspired folkloric motifs.

Anna Sui's little girl folkloric.

Tea's folkloric friendly mixables.

Oilily's back and doing their thing with rich folkloric embroidery.

-Plaids for girls' and boys' sportswear.

THERE WILL BE:

-Plum, purple, lilac, rose, magenta and dusty mauve worn in combinations and paired with warm gray and sometimes greenish khaki.

Anna Sui's passion for purple.

Saurette works the palette in girlish separates.

Boys rock the look too at 3 Pommes.

-Electric blue either hot or cooled with a touch of ink. Lots of puffers in these shades.

Appaman's fur-trimmed, electric blue puffer.

-With electric blue there will be dark charcoal and pimento.

THERE WILL BE:

Lush palettes in...

Stonewashed grays, lilacs and blues:

Go Gently Baby works gentle tones of the palette.

Newcomer My World by Green Cotton goes for the richest shades of the palette and enlivens them with deep jade.

Electric blue paired with charcoal, mustard and sometimes accents of pimento:

Maximum color and a fabulous shape from KidCuteTure.
