Keeping It Real: Newcomers at March 2010 Children's Club - Part II

SPORTSWEAR: (continued)

LLUM

Homebase: Philadelphia, PA

DESIGNER: Amanda Reichert

Sizes: 2T to 6 years; Wholesale prices: $9.75-$34

" 'Llum' (pronounced "loom") is the Catalan word for light: the pure, creative energy in every child - the glow of personality and individual style."

Llum is the vision of a modernist. Some of Reichert's designs have the streamlined elegance and color-blocking of Miró; others mix clean lines with Sixties inspired patterns. Several designs are reversible, a few are unisex, and her color palette of rich vegetable tones is hard to resist.

Outstanding piece: The Miro: Just two colors and a contrasting button. The artist would approve.

The unisex Cuffed Trousers in soft flannel look sophisticated, but with a mock-fly and full elastic waist, they're as easy to move in as sweat pants.

SARA NOELLE

Homebase: Short Hills, NJ

DESIGNER: Lina Sicoli

Sizes: 12 months to 10 years; Wholesale prices: $14-$89

"Sara Noelle captures the innocence of girls' fashion with a twist on the classics, bringing prints, embroidery and smocking details together with a touch of modern foil graphics."

This is the second collection for Sicoli, the former design director at Tommy Hilfiger Kids. Sicoli takes classic design elements such as smocking and tiny floral patterns and updates the look with touches of metallic threads, dropped waists and foil appliqués.

Outstanding piece: The Bella Dress. Sicoli tweaks the traditional smocked dress with a deep, neutral tone, a lower than usual waist, and touches of metallic in the decorative stitching.

SCHATZI

Homebase: Alberta, Canada

DESIGNERS: Tanja Rosner and Judy Fedora

Sizes: 3 months to 12 years; Wholesale prices: $14-$48

"Once upon a time a boy met a girl. They had one thing in common….great style."

Traditional schoolgirls and boys go for a joy ride when they don funky plaid jumpers, cool unisex vests, and comfy cotton knit leggings and tees. A strong color palette of black, rose, and gray makes mixing and matching easy while bold zippers add pizzazz.

Outstanding pieces: The versatile Cameron dress is a wear every day piece. Its simple shape makes it a natural over a blouse or T-shirt and it's light enough to wear comfortably under a jacket. Wide zippers on the front pockets and down the back lend a playful note.

"Skylar is made for our smallest yet biggest teachers. They are living for the moment…Reaching for the stars…"

Reese's debut collection includes fun, casual cotton knit pieces with New Age symbols and slogans such as "Got Zen." A bright palette cooled with neutrals lends a touch of sophistication.

TINY PANTS

Homebase: New York, NY

DESIGNERS: Dinna Soliman and Nicole Parrish

Sizes: 2T to 14 years; Wholesale prices: $12-$30

"Tiny Pants is children's clothing for mini stylistas in training, and the fabulous parents that dress them."

Couture looks at affordable prices. I like that. I like the well-edited, easy to mix-and-match pieces, the unapologetically bright color palette, the comfortable shapes and a couple of show stopping items that add a pop of pure glamour to a girl's wardrobe.

Outstanding pieces: I can see clearly - through this raincoat with fun, brightly colored closures.

Shirtdresses are the hot new ticket for fall. This one goes a step further with a ruffled "bustle."
