7 West NYC Baby & Kids Fair - Part I Approximately 25 exhibitors, some with several collections, gathered at 7 West 34th Street, an elegant, old world building in the heart of the garment center for the second 7 West NYC Baby & Kids Fair (August 16-18, 2010). Exhibitors showed immediate Fall 2010 and early Spring 2011 collections. Judging from the serene expressions and longer than usual conversations around the lunchroom tables (good meal, by the way), retailers seemed pleased by the experience.
Homebase: Alhambra, CA DESIGNER: Amy Liang Sizes: NB to 4T years; Wholesale prices: $11-$13 Babysoy is the first company to create infant wear employing soybean protein fiber: the leftover pulp from tofu, soymilk and other soy products. Liang's Fall/Winter 2010 collection includes modern shaped kimono-style tees and one-pieces, footed pants, and other simple shapes. All the tops, such as the Year Round Reversible Hoodie, are a solid color edged with a contrasting tone.

For boys, the Chinese Calendar group packs a wallop of color and a dramatic dragon appliqué.

Homebase: Philadelphia, PA DESIGNER: Karen Heyne-Bogut Sizes: 6 months to 12 years; Wholesale prices: $16-$25 There's nothing more complicated in this Spring/Summer 2011 collection of organic cotton pieces than a smocked sundress. What gives the garments their oomph is a shock of intense color and one large-scale graphic with the delicacy of a fine engraving.

His palettes are always on trend, yet they reflect a personal style: an unexpected tone in the right place, a tincture of something smoky to keep the shades from glaring, a creaminess to the hues. From the Spring/Summer 2011 Empress group comes this oriental print in sunny shades with a hit of pale blue. The Tour group for boys, includes this romper with a hood and interesting diagonal side stripes.
