Fall/Winter 2011 Children's Club: The 'Ideas' of March - Go to the 'Head' of the Class (hats, hair accessories) It's not just the Ides of March, but the 'ideas' of March, where the March ENK Children's Club (March 6-8, 2011) is concerned. Indeed, it's not just about products and items that look good, but that have a good idea behind them. As I covered the trade show, in search of the best of the best for infants to tweens, in the 'accessory' arena, I kept thinking about the 'BIG' idea behind the line, the product, or in the best cases, both! These are some of the ones that stood out this time around.
Truly unique hair accessories for girls and women Designer: Andrea Chafetz Wholesale: $8 - $35 What's the BIG idea? Ms. Chafetz knows what she likes, and she knows what her customers like and want, and she continues to "do what she's doing". It's not about less is more, but more is more where her ultra tasteful, truly unique, sophisticated, high quality, hand made (in the USA) hair accessories are concerned, and she also noted that there's been no price resistance. There's also a lot of versatility in many of her products, which allow the customer to enjoy the product in more than one way (hence the headbands that can also be used as belts or necklaces). How's that for practical?  Standouts: The gossamer flower snap clips (the most popular item on their website).  Standout: The Bridal velvet blossom sash belt.  Standouts: The torchon lace headbands and pony o's.  Standout: The faceted stone headbands on elasticized, adjustable bands. 
Standouts: The drape satin tiny bow clips and drape satin embroidered, beaded, and sequined hair ties (which can also be used as a necklace or belt!).

Chic hair accessories Designer: Bari Erber Wholesale: $4 - $24 Ages: Newborn - adult What's the BIG idea? A collection of very sophisticated, very grown up, very 'luxe', very 'chic', hair accessories, that are also, "very New York". Ms. Erber, whose products are sold in over 800 stores worldwide, is always expanding and adding new products and has branched out from just hair accessories, and has added coordinating jewelry. 
Standouts: The new very glittery and very colorful Swarovski decorated hair clips, skinny headbands, and skinny bangles (that come in 3 sizes).

High quality, customized accessories Designer: Faigie Brecher Wholesale: $8 - $30 Sizes: Girls 4 - 6X, Girls 7 - 16, Infant, Toddler What's the BIG idea? Ever since Ms. Brecher launched her first collection, Wallflower Designs, (after which she took time off to spend more time with her 5 children), her goal has been to "design accessories for both women and girls that capture her own and her daughter's unique fashion sense" and while she made a name for herself with her highly differentiated line of hair accessories, she has not only been 'tweaking' and adding within that category (her new, ultra sophisticated 'Princess Kate' inspired group, is a prime example), but has been expanding and adding new products (embellished crochet hats, customized appliquéd one-piece, etc.). 
Standouts: The ultra sophisticated, posh, and literally 'fit for a princess', Princess Kate-inspired regal and ornate headbands.  Standout: The appliquéd baby one-pieces customized to each child (she can change the eye color to order).

Hand made, funky, glitzy, trendy, hair accessories Designer: Sandy Ostach Wholesale: $6.50 - $12 Ages: 18 months - adult What's the BIG idea? Ms. Ostach's customers have been asking for funkier, more 'over the top' styles, and Ms. Ostach is more than happy to oblige (see below)  Standouts: The brand new ultra funky and ultra glitzy 'Little Miss Hottie Collection' comprised of 16 different styles, each made of ribbons, sequins, rhinestones, (and a little bit of the "kitchen sink" according to Ms. Ostach), and they can be made on a clip or an elastic band.

Trendy and stylish hats for little ones Designer: Laurie Derickson Wholesale: $3 - $13.50 Ages: Newborn - 10 What's the BIG idea? Ms. Derickson admits that she was always creative and always had an entrepreneurial spirit, and while her line is undeniably stylish and trend driven, it's all about 'comfort', and most of the hats include the Classic Marili Jean Barrette which easily comes off and is interchangeable.  Standout: The infant sized Vera Bucket.  Standout: The My Lil Bear. 
Standout: The Diva and infant sized Mini Diva with interchangeable snap off flower barrette (which is their best seller)  Standout: The blue and red striped Santa's Lil Helpers.

Handmade boutique quality hair accessories Designer: Vannie Teifel Wholesale: $8 - $19.50 Ages: Children - Adult What's the BIG idea? An extensive line of hand made accessories for children and adults, with an emphasis on hair accessories (in fact, it's "everything you can possibly need for your hair"). But recently, Ms. Teifel was inspired to create a line of boot belts (which are also adult sized): made of ribbon over cotton webbing, each decorated with 12 Swarovski crystals, they instantly transform the ever popular Ugg Boots from something common to something extra special! 
Standout: The Hot Pink Cheetah; White Zebra; Pink Peace; Burberry Plaid boot belts with 'silver' toned (horsebit) closures.

Colorful extraordinary accessories for kids Designers: Marcy Cohen, Lori Rockoff Wholesale: $3.5- $5 Ages: Girls 4 - 6X, Girls 7 - 14, Infant, layette, toddler What's the BIG idea? It all began with the 'Hip Clip that Won't Slip', no slip hair clips and hair bows that would stay in place with even just a few strands of hair (necessitated by Marcy's baby daughter, who had very little hair when she was first born), and Pea Soup Accessories, the combined effort and brainchild of sisters Marcy and Lori, is now an extensive line that continues to expand as new products and new lines are added each season.  Standout: Spirit Wear, a line of customized rhinestone studded and embellished apparel.  Standout: Chai Tops (an extensive line of fun and whimsical Kippot).  Standout: The multi colored satin butterfly clips.  Standout: The sequined bows on clips and on headbands.
