ON THE INSIDE WITH MARILYN KIRSCHNER

October 2009 Children's Club: Established Exhibitors - Part I

These are some of the established lines that especially stood out this time around at Children's Club (October 4-6, 2009).

Trumpette

Innovative, unique, and contemporary baby apparel, and gift items.

Designer: Jon Stevenson

Wholesale: $3 - $37

Ages: Infant, Toddler

Standouts: All things 'Mary Jane' related (an evolution of their trademark: the original Mary Jane socks): Mary Jane tights, Mary Jane rubber rain boots, Mary Jane shoes, Mary Jane booties, Mary Jane rubber rain boots; the black and white spectators; the giant 'patent leather' 'schlep' bags in graphic black and white (or vice versa); the humorous trompe l'oeil T-shirts and one-pieces; the gold metallic penny loafers; the high top rubber booties; the graphic black and white striped keepsake boxes.

FYI: Mr. Stevenson was inspired to create a line of baby clothes after the adoption of his little boy. His first product was 'The Perfect Dozen', 12 baby socks placed in an egg carton. Trumpette which actually means "The best for little ones" in French, is celebrating its 20th anniversary and they will proudly remind you that they are the originators of the now ubiquitous Mary Jane socks (and they are not shy about spreading the word: their booth at the Children's Club boldly announced the fact). Eye catching graphics, fabulous packaging (keepsake boxes that you won't want to throw away), color, and a sense of humor are hallmarks of the line.
