September 23, 2018 – Denton Record-Chronicle – At the age of 22 with a 2-year-old son, Nancy Cole decided to open a children’s store in Denton. It was 1969 and she was in merchandising school, and had a hard time finding affordable clothes for her son. She realized that salesmen would sell children’s clothes in bulk for discounted prices at the school, and she could resell them. She started a storefront on Oakland Street near Texas Woman’s University with a batch of sweaters. Now, 49 years later, she’s announced her business — Small Fry — is closing by mid-November. It’s the only locally owned children’s store in Denton. It’s time to retire, she said. Read the story in the Denton Record-Chronicle.
