Abbey House Museum in England hosts children’s clothes exhibition

 

February 24, 2019 – BBC News – Photographs showing how children’s fashions have changed since Victorian times has inspired a new U.K. exhibition.

Sepia images taken in 1898 of a boy called Clifford Jobbins show him before and after he was “breeched.” It was a rite of passage for Victorian boys in which they stopped wearing dresses and wore their first pair of trousers. The snaps inspired the Abbey Museum’s youth club to make the clothing exhibition called He, She, They Exhibition?

It raided Leeds Museums’ archives to chart the evolution of children’s clothes from Victorian Britain to the modern age.
