Children's Club: Newcomers for Spring/Summer 2008 - Part II
SPORTSWEAR CC3DESIGN Homebase: Oakland, CA DESIGNER: Cathleen Schulte Sizes: NB to 8 years; Wholesale prices: $15-$38 Theme: Keeping it clean If the name of this diminutive collection sounds like an architectural firm, you're onto something. Schulte, who has been designing a line of hats and scarves for about two years, branched out this season with a diminutive collection of modern, clean-lined shapes in an understated palette of white, cocoa, silver-gray and pale, dusty pink. Favorites: Careful with this silk charmeuse stunner. It'll make every other dress at the birthday party look over-the-top.
See the way those two simple darts at the side give the top shape? That's a good example of this modernist's form over showy design aesthetic. Love the back interest, too. Tel: 815-461-4437 E-mail: Cathleen@cc3design.com
LITTLE LOVELIES COUTURE Homebase: Los Angeles, CA DESIGNER: Jenny Felimi Sizes: 3 months to 10 years; Wholesale prices: $14-$68 Theme: "Vintage-inspired clothing for the tragically hip little starlet." If a focus group of retailers from better boutiques in California convened to dream up the perfect collection, the outcome would look a lot like Little Lovelies Couture. The line has every California-style detail: Feminine, muted colors, an unmistakable vintage mood with plenty of rock'n roll attitude, not to mention yards of tulle, silk appliqués and enough rosettes to start a florist's shop. Favorites: Sweet frocks for the littlest lovelies. That skirt is reversible so it switches from the gorgeous toile over tulle to all tulle with a big silk appliqué. If that isn't LA, what is? SIAOMIMI Homebase: Hong Kong, China DESIGNER: Hilda Yim Sizes: 12 months to 6 years; Wholesale prices: $20-$35 Theme: A happy world of gingham, and florals, and stripes This newcomer isn't shy about pattern: She's obviously smitten with prints and mixes them with abandon. What saves the collection from overkill is the simple shapes she employs and Yim's color sense: She understands how to keep silhouettes clean so the designs don't fight, and she's a vintage girl at heart: a tuck here, a button there and that's enough. Favorites: A little bird told me this tunic with the butter soft pointelle leggings is charming. A "little lady" coat in a va-va-voom red meets its match with the demure red print dress. WILLOW & FINN Homebase: Melbourne, Australia DESIGNER: Angela McDonald Sizes: 3 months to 14 years; Wholesale prices: $40-$50 Theme: Classic designs with a global perspective This five-year-old company made its American debut at ENK. The designer does a noble job of sourcing European fabrics and spinning the fine cloth into simple, elegant shapes. She's an excellent colorist too, who balances a mix of saturated reds, teals and cocoa with cooler neutrals. Favorites: The shape of this beach stone gray dress is simple which allows the eye to follow the path of the pink ribbon lacing in and out of the bodice and around the waist. LITTLE LINENS Homebase: Wanstead, London DESIGNER: Keely Deininger Sizes: 3 months to 13 years; Wholesale prices: $27-$60 Theme: Casual linens meant to be wrinkled This newcomer's collection possesses a vintage like, rumpled feeling. The linen is soft to the touch and looks best unpressed. Good news for moms who love the cloth but don't want to be tied to the iron. Favorites: The toile duster and well-cut jacket are pure charm. Gorgeous blues for boys. Tel: 44.870.5706 E-mail: keely.deininger@btinternet.com
