New Collections Are Born at Bubble: One Launch at a Time - Part III
TODDLER AND UP DRESSES DOMINIQUE ROUZIER Homebase: Brooklyn, NY DESIGNER: Dominique Rouzier Sizes: 2 to 8 years (some outerwear available to size 16); Wholesale prices: $90-$198 Rouzier's collection of dresses and coats straddle a line between stark, modern cuts and classic, feminine touches - a silk tie bow for instance. Her shapes are lean and materials such as polished cotton, wool cashmere and silk charmeuse are top of the line.
Outstanding piece: You can see what I mean about the bent of Rouzier's pieces. That coat (the silk bow is part of the piece) and dress are utterly modern yet wouldn't be out of place at the opera. Tel: 917-714-2189 E-mail: inquiries@dominiquerouzier.com
LOYALE Homebase: New York, NY DESIGNER: Jenny Hwa Sizes: 4 to 8 years; Wholesale prices: $55-$58 Hwa has designed a women's collection for three years. She launched her diminutive line of organic cotton smock-style dresses at Bubble. Outstanding pieces: Hwa begins with simply shaped, A-line dresses then gives them an elegant spin with a clean palette of mustard, cream and pale gray and a touch of embroidered ribbon. NOKO Homebase: Bala Cynwyd, PA DESIGNERS: Jennifer Friese and Maureen Chianese Sizes: NB to 6 years; Wholesale prices: $16-$85 The designers spent several years in Japan where they discovered "tenugui." The hand-printed cloth has been employed in the country for everything from business cards to head wraps for sushi chefs. Until Noko though, the fabric had never been used for children's clothing. Outstanding pieces: The contrast of tenugui patterns and rich velvets add depth to the modern shapes of the dresses. Tel: 323-924-5468 E-mail: nokobaby@mac.com
SARAH WALDO ORGANICS Homebase: Providence, RI DESIGNER: Sarah Waldo Sizes: 12 months to 14 years; Wholesale prices: $25-$202 Waldo launched a collection of all organic, better girlswear. Her clean, feminine wares are influenced by years at Parsons School of Design where she was voted Designer of the Year in 2005, and at Polo Ralph Lauren, Vespa, Baby Gap and Kule.
Outstanding piece: You won't find another coat as flattering as this cream Merino wool piece with purple silk taffeta lining. The stand-up collar, narrow waist, and bell sleeves accentuate all the right spots. Tel: 917-701-0164 E-mail: sarahwaldo@gmail.com
