Bubble Spring 2009: Pure Design for Established Collections - Part II
TODDLER AND UP DAGMAR DALEY Homebase: San Francisco, CA DESIGNER: Dagmar Daley Sizes: Girls 3 months to 8 years, Boys 18 months to 8 years; Wholesale prices: $16.50-$41.50 Daley owns the Granny/Granddaddy chic look. The designer channels early Americana through the lens of a modernist for streamlined yet cozy pieces. Outstanding offering: The soft woven stripe Mica Men's shirt dress can go solo over tights, or worn over leggings or pants. Either way, it's as comfortable as pajamas and a whole lot better looking. Tel: 415-641-1286 E-mail: Info@dagmardaley.com
IGLOO ISLAND Homebase: New York, NY DESIGNER: Sandra Stollar Sizes: 4 to 14 years; Wholesale prices: $10-$28 Think disco meets the playground and you've got Stollar's stretchy knit, candy colored, easy-to-wear collection. Outstanding pieces: The graceful drape, loose cut and neutral tone of this tunic make it the most versatile piece in a girl's closet. Tel: 212-366-6800 E-mail: sstollar@iglooisland.com
KICO KIDS Homebase: New York, NY DESIGNER: Tia Cibani Sizes: 2 to 12 years; Wholesale prices: $40-$100 Like all of Cibani's collections, Spring 2009 is rife with unusual color groups (the mustard, aqua, pale gray and cream is my favorite) and unique ways of employing fabric.
Outstanding offering: Using the silky netting like a diaphanous veil turns the wool sheath into a multi-tonal, lighthearted frock. Tel: 617-764-0352 E-mail: Kittypu@kicokids.com
SES PETITES MAINS Homebase: San Francisco, CA DESIGNER: Beth Miles Sizes: 12 months to 8 years; Wholesale prices: $17-$65 It's the contradictions I love about Miles' collections. There are no hard edges or severe details yet the look is undeniably modern. She uses neutrals to offset rich pastels and vivid red yet I wouldn't call her palette sweet, and she throws ruffles here and there without anything looking frilly. Outstanding offering: The Gertie dress with its taffy colors, filmy layer over the twirl-worthy skirt and pretty, gently gathered neckline will make girls (and their parents) swoon. Tel: 415-533-1695 E-mail: contact@sespetitesmains.com
NONCHALANT KIDS Homebase: Wakefield, RI DESIGNER: Carina Schott Sizes: 1 to 8 years; Wholesale prices: $20-$59 Breezy, feminine shapes, a bold red, white and black palette and one groovy piece make this collection memorable. Outstanding offering: Ready for the return of the jumpsuit? I am, if it's as funky as this halter-topped, wide-legged beauty. Tel: 401-284-4551 E-mail: Carina@nonchalantmom.com
PAPERWINGS Homebase: Mullumbimby, Australia DESIGNER: Michelle Fallon and Jason Gibaud Sizes: 2 to 10 years; Wholesale prices: $32.50-$102 With backgrounds in costume design, feature film production, architecture and interior design it's no wonder this creative team produces such inspired, eclectic collections. Outstanding offering: A less courageous design team would pair the tunic with leggings or skinny jeans, and it would look fine - not exciting, but fine. The Paperwings duo shakes thing up by teaming the top with all American denim and a cascade of ruffles. It's not an expected ensemble, but a welcome one. Outstanding offering: The Leon overall, available in three versatile colors, has an endearing rounded shape. Tel: 702-876-9093 E-mail: Contact@bobinette.com
