Spring/Summer 2010 ENK Children's Club: New Exhibitors; Retailers Are Back - Part II
LEISUREWEAR/ACTIVEWEAR: PINK THREAD Homebase: North Miami, FL DESIGNER: Victoria Barrios Sizes: 7 to 14 years; Wholesale prices: $5-$16 for a 2-piece set You've heard of seasonless dressing? Now you have "Everywhere" clothing. According to the manufacturers, the garments "can be worn day into night, in hot or cold weather, as under or outerwear " The cotton, nylon, and Lycra pieces are designed in basic undergarment shapes: sports bras, tube tops, camisole and underpant styles, and colored in solids and a few simple patterns. The items don't have the telltale underwear markers: rosettes, ribbon bows, etc., so if a girl wore a camisole or sports bra and leggings no one would say, "Hey, you forgot your dress." The pieces are soft and comfortable, too. Outstanding pieces: All the items create a smooth line alone or under other garments. Tel: 305-891-4829 E-mail: Victoria@pink-thread.com
TODDLER AND UP: BRICA NYC Homebase: New York, NY DESIGNER: Deirdre Mone Lapolla Sizes: 4 to 14 years; Wholesale prices: $22-$46 Delicate neutral and dusty pastel tones color Lapolla's debut collection of Modal and cotton girls' separates. Her shapes - dropped-waists, circle skirts, Peter Pan collars - are subtly nostalgic while shorts and rompers lend a trendy note. Outstanding pieces: The half sleeves and shirred bottom of the softly draped Tatiana Top (worn with the circle skirt) allow it to work as a blouse or casual jacket. Rompers have never looked as modern as they do this season when the Seventies and Eighties are the periods to reference and anything with a short-like bottom is hot. The romper is especially timely colored in the neutral tone. Tel: 917-880-6623 E-mail: Bricanyc@aol.com
MILLIONS OF COLORS Homebase: New York, NY DESIGNER: Rujira Lawonvisut Sizes: 2 to 14 years; Wholesale prices: $18-$27 Don't let the name fool you. Lawonvisut chose only a handful of hues for her collection, and each carefully picked tone works hard to add punch and élan to the line. Outstanding pieces: Millions of colors or just a few of the right ones. The nostalgic silk blouse takes a modern turn when it's paired with lemon yellow short-shorts. That's the kind of unexpected twist the designer works into the pieces. Duo Inc. Showroom (Robin Wilcher) Tel: 212-354-2371 E-mail: Robin@duokids.com
RYDER & JAMES Homebase: San Francisco, CA DESIGNER: Cory Gomberg Sizes: 2 to 10 years; Wholesale prices: $13-$53 The "Free & Easy" boys' and girls' collections of the newly launched Ryder & James are "inspired by the cool relaxed style of the adventurer in all of us." Look for lots of plaids, distressed fabrications, vintage-style sweats and on the dressier side, pinstriped blazers. Outstanding pieces: The Ryder & James look: casual, easy, with a sun-faded color palette and a touch of funk. The Murray Denim Sailor Pant is cut straight and easy and sports a unique back pocket. Tel: 415-726-5226 E-mail: Info@ryderandjames.com
DRESSES: ILOVEGORGEOUS Homebase: North Yorkshire, England DESIGNERS: Lucy Enfield and Sophie Worthington Sizes: 6 months to 14 years; Wholesale prices for dresses and separates: $28-$64, flower girl pieces: $67-$90 There's so much gorgeous to love: Lovely couture fabrications, a color palette that includes delicate neutrals to hues with punch, unusual trims employed judiciously, and designers who know how to layer textures. A gorgeous debut. Outstanding pieces: Everything about this outfit works: The soft, nostalgic coloration of the Liberty silk fabric, the feminine sleeves and generous cut and that glimmer of trim at the hem adds a playful touch that ties the dress to the gold metallic cardigan. Just lovely. Yoka Showroom (Caroline Nagle) Tel: 212-594-7714 E-mail: Caroline@yokashowroom.com
SAMA BABY ORGANICS Homebase: Houston, TX DESIGNER: Neha Gupta Sizes: NB to 6X; Wholesale prices: $10-$15 Selling online and to retailers since 2006, ENK was Sama Baby's first trade show in New York. Gupta's collection of Indian inspired, organic cotton one-pieces, tunics and sundresses reflect an easy, throw-it-on-and-go aesthetic. Outstanding pieces: This fabulous tunic in the fresh pink and green combination works over a bathing suit or with any bottom. That blue detail at the neckline is like a slice of sky over a garden of wild roses. Tel: 888-847-7262 E-mail: Info@samababy.com
ADORE LA VIE Homebase: San Francisco, CA DESIGNER: Amanda Boyd Sizes: 2 to 12 years; Wholesale prices: $40-$58 Boyd's dresses are feminine, beautifully constructed and sport special details such as fabric rosettes and unique embroidery. The pieces are meant for special days without the fuss of a big-skirted, heavy-sashed number. Outstanding piece: The Ruffle Sleeve Dress has several trends working: the feminine fluttered sleeve, the easy A-line cut, and a bold paisley pattern in an attention grabbing color combination. The look is very Seventies and just right for spring. Tel: 630-240-1757 E-mail: Amanda@adorelaviedesigns.com
SWIMWEAR: MAAJI SWIMWEAR Homebase: Miami, FL DESIGNER: Maaji design team Sizes: 2 to 16 years; Wholesale prices: $28-$38 The trend for swimwear for 2010: mixed prints, and Maaji Swimwear's design team mixed it up with panache. Outstanding pieces: The tiniest bikinis in the funkiest patterns and great combinations make for an arresting pool-side appearance. Tel: 305-931-4196 E-mail: Msierra@maajiswimwear.com
