Spring/Summer 2011: New and New Again at the August Children's Club - Part I As you'll see in the photos below, newcomers at ENK Children's Club Show (August 1-3, 2010) launched collections that spanned from one-of-a-kind upscale gypsy to traditional. You'll recognize a few familiar faces that took a break from the industry or left established collections to start their own. We enjoyed meeting the newcomers and getting reacquainted with the returning few. Good luck to all!
Homebase: Brooklyn, NY DESIGNER: Shogo Natsawa Sizes: 2 to 12 years; Wholesale prices: $15-$39 Natsawa mixes it up with vintage and vintage-inspired fabrics and gorgeous Jersey pieces in rich jewel tones. The collection has a one-of-a-kind, upscale, bohemian feeling that works well for a girl with a strong fashion sense. Outstanding piece: The saturated tones of the lovely floral tunic coordinate with the rich orange of the limited edition, gypsy-style skirt. Nothing matchy-matchy yet everything ties together effortlessly. Tel: 347 422-4206 E-mail: aiotynyc@gmail.com
Homebase: Ross, CA DESIGNERS: Maryam Barrett and Genevieve Chapman Sizes: 3 months to 8 years (some styles up to 12 years); Wholesale Prices: $15-$58 Just a couple of seasons young, the Busy Bees designers stay true to their aesthetic: clean classics with a few touches that freshen the look. Outstanding pieces: The embroidered cotton Oscar dress is inspired by Oscar de la Renta's latest collection. It evokes de la Renta's clientele - ladies who lunch - yet the easy shape stops it from being prim. I say, 'Yes!' to pajamas. They're so comfortable and look so much better than a sloppy T-shirt and sweat pants. These are made of ultra silky cotton for a luxurious feel. Tel: 917 796-9771 E-mail: Maryam@busybees-kids.com
Homebase: San Diego, CA DESIGNERS: Heather Haas and Kit Frye Sizes: 4 years up to Junior (approx. women's size 2); Wholesale prices: $16-$60 Fiveloaves Twofish jumps into the kids' market with a print-driven, boldly colored collection of dresses and separates. Many pieces have narrow tops and full circle skirts for a saucy, feminine look. Outstanding pieces: Short of a wedding, I can't think of a single occasion where these outfits wouldn't look absolutely chic, pulled together and original. Homebase: Yarmouth, ME DESIGNERS: Heather Knuppel and Matt Knuppel Sizes: NB to 2T; Wholesale prices: $10-$24 Heather Knuppel has launched a collection of sweet infant wear with subtle colorations and delicate pleat and smocking details. Made from Pima cotton, the items possess a silky hand. Outstanding piece: In a color saturated show, this quiet little number stood out. Tel: 207 939-8596 E-mail: Matt@little0-6.com www.little0-6.com
Homebase: Philadelphia, PA DESIGNER: Amanda Reichert Sizes: 6 months to 8 years; Wholesale prices: $4-$54 Reichert's second collection possesses a confident use of strong color and an affinity for both modern and romantic shapes. Halter tops in jewel tones look fresh paired with dirndl skirts, and boys' pieces are polished too, with great military-styled trousers as well as retro polo shirts. Outstanding pieces: The lovely loosely pleated neckline of the Degas Dress frames the collarbone while a big flowered sash ties in a generous bow in the back. Great touches, yet it's the white voile over a deeply colored layer that makes the dress an original. Modern stripes update a polo shirt and neatly cuffed denim shorts.
