ON THE INSIDE WITH TINA BARRY

Spring/Summer 2011: Established Lines - Sportswear - Part IV

TEA COLLECTION

Homebase: San Francisco, CA

DESIGNER: Emily Meyer

Sizes: Girls and boys NB to 8 years; Wholesale prices: $11.50-$36.50

Meyer's palette: white, gray, indigo, khaki, lemon, pale blue and burnt orange reflects the dusty tones of buildings and tiles in Catalonia, Spain, where the designer finds inspiration this season.

Outstanding pieces: The shapes in the girls' and boys' groups are loose and easy and the fabrics have a comfortable rumpled appearance. Thoughtful touches such as smocking and a bold ruffle on a dress or a roomy keep-the-sun-off hood on a boy's tunic are details retailers expect from this innovative collection.

ZUTANO

Homebase: Cabot, VT

DESIGNER: Uli Belenky

Sizes: NB to 4T; Wholesale prices: $5.25-$25

Face it. Few designers know how to develop and color prints the way Belenky does. She creates unique patterns and colors that are cheerful without being too sweet or too bright. This season she's added teacups and billy goats and all sorts of fanciful motifs to the line.

Outstanding pieces: Two charming looks: The Butterfly print dress worn beneath the fun Reversible Shrug. Belenky worked fuchsia and lime through the entire collection, so the shrug can top everything.

The easy, breathable seersucker Camp Shirt works back to the nostalgic Locomotive print short. Of course, the top would pair well with any jean in a boy's closet too.
