SKYLAR Homebase: La Canada Flintridge, CA DESIGNER: Wen C. Reese Sizes: 6 months to 7 years; Wholesale prices: $9-$12.50 "For life's limitless possibilities" Bamboo creates a silky hand and incredible drape on these simple, casual pieces. Homebase: Santa Fe, NM Sizes: 2T to 8 years; Wholesale prices: $12-$22.50 DESIGNERS: Marianne Broughton "We believe all children are unique, and that children's clothing should always be comfortable. That's why we're committed to materials, designs and fabrication processes that feel great on all children." Partners Alexandra Merlino and designer Marianne Broughton launched with a collection of richly colored cotton knit pieces in modern shapes for girls and boys. The items are designed without tags or threads that can scratch, making them ideal for children with tactile sensitivity. Outstanding Pieces: An asymmetrical seam edged with deep gathers takes this lush, garnet-colored dress from a simple T-shirt design to something spectacular. The piece can be worn alone or as shown with below-the-knees, ruffled shorts. Tel: 917 721-3127 E-mail: Alex@tereskids.com
Homebase: Denmark DESIGNER: Charlotte Galsgaard Sizes: 3 months to 14 years; Wholesale prices: $9-$37 "By wearing Wheat Basic, children participate in the relaxed Scandinavian lifestyle giving quality and convenience." Wheat USA made its American debut at ENK. The multi-piece collection for girls and boys, has a distinctly Scandinavian look: a cool palette of white, pale gray, light blue, dusty pink and touches of tomato red. The prints are small-scale and classic - mostly pinstripes and gingham - and the shapes are cut for comfort. Outstanding Pieces: This casual boy's outfit looks elegant thanks to the layers of gray, interesting textures and the great button details on the pants. Tel: 410 626-1508 E-mail: Sales@wheat-usa.com
Homebase: Frisco, TX DESIGNER: Veronica Chong Sizes: NB to 24 months; Wholesale prices: $10-$24 "You are my angel" Chong has a great eye for mixing high-end prints and finding unique ways to add embellishment to the designs without the pieces looking fussy. Outstanding Piece: Everything about this little bubble works: The shape isn't so round that it detracts from the great pattern, the black trim lends graphic punch, and that black button corsage is like a flirty wink. Love it! Legacy Design Group Tel: 214 469-1144 E-mail: Lorin@legacydesign.com
TWIRLY GIRL Homebase: Los Angeles, CA DESIGNER: Cynthia Jamin-Driver Sizes: 2 to 12 years; Wholesale prices: $7-$38.75 "Express your inner twirl" Girls love pieces with wide skirts they can twirl in. That's the idea behind Twirly Girl, a collection of print-happy skirts, dresses and separates. Each silky nylon piece sports panels of different patterns, like a kaleidoscope, and many of the items are reversible too. Fun! Outstanding Piece: The Original Twirly Dress: when she gets tired of the prints, she just flips it for a new look. Tel: 888 572-7774 Ext. 2 E-mail: Sales@twirlygirlshop.com
ANN FRANCES Homebase: Nashville, TN DESIGNERS: Elizabeth Blankenship and Mary Blankenship Sizes: 2 to 8 years; Wholesale prices: $210-$375 "A day like no other" I stood before this booth and sighed, "Oh, my." The special occasion pieces are colored in pale, creamy whites; the softest, beigey pinks; blue so ethereal it barely registers as color. The sisters design a popular line of exquisite Ann Frances bridal gowns; at Children's Club they launched Pink Label flower girl pieces. The dresses float from the body and have the feeling of a vintage nightgown: pin tucks, delicate rows of lace inserts, intricate smocking. Outstanding Pieces: The lineup: like viewing a cloud. The Olivia dress. Everything from the fine, hand-smocking to the intricate lace inserts is perfectly executed. In the end, the dress isn't starchy; a little girl can move with ease.
