Fall/Winter 2011 At ENK Children's Club: Cold Outside; Heating Up Indoors Did you feel the charge in the air at ENK Children's Club (January 23-25, 2011)? I did. The mood was upbeat with new and established manufacturers exhibiting well-edited collections. While looks were all over the style map, in girls' collections jewel tones and ruffles ruled; while deep hues and narrower shapes lent an elegant edge to boys' rugged separates.
Homebase: Valley Cottage, NY DESIGNER: Susan Skeels Sizes: 3 months to 14 years; Wholesale prices: $15-$32 Skeels produces a small collection of hand knitted sweaters in flattering tones, as well as robes in classic solid colors or playful tie-dyed designs. BLUSH Homebase: Los Angeles, CA DESIGNERS: Norma Sawdy and Judy Pokonosky Sizes: 7 to 16 years; Wholesale prices for holiday and fall: $32.50-$74 For fall, the designers presented a collection of understated shapes and an elegant neutral palette. Even the sparkle of sequins is subdued.  Outstanding Piece: Restraint is the word here. Homebase: Key Biscayne, FL DESIGNER: Maria Frallicciardi Girls and boys sizes: 3 months to 8 years; Wholesale prices: $21-$34 Working in a stonewashed palette, Frallicciardi crafts lush sweaters and pretty, Liberty print dresses for the understated yet fashion-forward girl.  Outstanding Pieces: A floral pattern that isn't too flowery, and smocking, give a traditional dress a modern twist. (Hat by Kangol.) Homebase: San Diego, CA DESIGNERS: Heather Haas and Kit Kuriakose Sizes: 2 to 14 years; Wholesale prices: $16-$45 The designers work in a timely palette of teal, deep purple and charcoal and throw a handful of glitter into the mix. In its second season the Gilded Cage collection of dresses and separates is inspired by "Marie Antoinette, Catherine of Aragon, Anastasia Romanov, and Lady Jane Gray, princesses all in Gilded Cages."  Outstanding Piece: The most lighthearted piece in the line, the Goldie dress, is for "every girl that just wants to have FUN!" The designers keep shapes simple and classic then add a dazzling sequined ribbon belt or lush, handcrafted flowers. 
Outstanding Pieces: Seen from the front, it's a stark black A-line. When viewed from the back, it's a flirty frock with a flounce of white tulle and the surprise of two black bows.  Everyone knows: red stands out in a crowd. This little show stopper, in a shimmery tone of cherry, puts the pretty girl front and center then frames her with a lush bodice of handcrafted rosettes. KAPITAL K Homebase: Cedar Grove, NJ DESIGNER: Spencer Sujjaporamest Sizes: 12 months to 8 years; Wholesale prices: $9-$43 Always adding and changing and improving on his collection, the restless designer adds a new category: accessories: double-knit scarves, knit and trapper hats.  Outstanding Pieces: Lots going on and it all works thanks to an eye for color and pattern mixing.
