At ENK Children's Club: A Taste of Early Fall/Winter 2011 Collections Because the collections at the recent Children's Club (January 23-25, 2011) were the usual mix of spring immediates and early Fall/Winter 2011, I was able to see just a sampling of the new fall/winter collections. So think of this as taste of what's to come, an amuse-bouche, if you will, as opposed to a five-course meal. THERE WILL BE:
Derek Lam's smokey colored fur vest over a rich blue tunic. The 3 Pommes design team's "badger" fur vest over a crisp white tunic.
Cleaned up grunge. Plaid shirts are narrower as are solid colored pants. The short plaid mini-skirt - either tiered or in a simple dirndl shape - appeared in many collections. While some companies offered weathered and frayed denims, dark-washed jeans in close-to-the-body shapes with little or no embellishment keeps grunge from looking, well, grungy. Sierra Julian mixes three trends: the fur-edged coat, plaid mini and autumnal shades sparked with magenta. Mish Mish's reversible plaid jacket with detachable hood worn over lean jeans.
-European luxe. Narrow on top, slightly curved skirts on the bottom. Basic lines that look elegant as is or form an ideal base for layers. -Caped crusader. Off the catwalks elegant cape-like shapes in outerwear and knitwear. Stella McCartney's tweed cape and narrow, front-pleated skirt. A. Bird's capelet and narrow black pants.
Just One. For a jolt of excitement: the narrow parka, sometimes fur-trimmed, in either silver, an ink-touched navy, or jewel toned. Look for less-is-more items, for instance, a one-piece that mimics a vest beneath a coat. Jewel tones from Baby CZ by Carolina Zapf and a lush fur-trimmed piece from Appaman.
THERE WILL BE:
-Sparkling jewel tones and mysterious gem shades dusted with gray. -Silvers and grays in every category including dresses. Silver and gray offer an alternative to bright tones in these special occasion dresses from US Angels.
-Charcoal, mustard, mustard-tinged olive, dusty gold. Burberry Men's charcoal and mustard palette. Liho rocks olive-toned neutrals.
-Misty, sugar-dipped cosmetic tones. Gossamer fabrics and cloud-like shades from kicokids.
-Subdued, washed shades of gray, mauve, lilac and cream. The softer side of the season at Lolligo Showroom: Left to right: Peas & Queues, Little Bean, and Reset.
-Navy with a tincture of black that changes the color from traditional to edgy.
THE LATEST COUPLES:
-Brilliant red and taupe. From Eliane et Lena.
-Teal and brilliant red. From Kanya.
-Plum and magenta. -Silver with any shade in the gray family.
THERE WILL BE:
-Plaid - from hats to boots. -Liberty prints. -Funky stripes - especially in accessories and casual wear. Emporio Armani - mixes stripes. Kapital K mixes stripes and goes one better with a faux "mohawk" hood.
-Dense paisley-like designs in a riot of colors. From Le Fromage et L'Orange.
-Ethnic, often African-inspired prints worn with solids or as a collage of mixed patterns. Proenza Schouler mixes it up. Liho designs inspired by the catwalk.
THERE WILL BE:
-Netting -Baby whale cord -Double-sided knits -Silk velvet -Tweeds and woolens -Faux Fur! Sierra Julian's "badger" coat is over the top and all the better for it!
