Fall/Winter 2011 At Children's Club: Cold Outside; Heating Up Indoors Did you feel the charge in the air at Children's Club (January 23-25, 2011)? I did. The mood was upbeat with new and established manufacturers exhibiting well-edited collections. While looks were all over the style map, in girls' collections jewel tones and ruffles ruled; while deep hues and narrower shapes lent an elegant edge to boys' rugged separates.
APPAMAN Homebase: New York, NY DESIGNER: Harald Husum Girls and boys sizes: 6 months to 10 years; Wholesale prices: $27-$49 Celebrities dig Appaman's chic, uniquely colored and long wearing outerwear. Hey, if it's good enough for Branjolina's kids, it should work for your customers, right? Outstanding Piece: Husum freshens a motorcycle jacket by quilting it in an arresting chevron pattern, adding multiple zippers and coloring it that looks-good-on-everyone sky blue.

Hippototamus offers that as well as innovative styling and great price points. Outstanding Pieces: Talbot said this machine washable shearling coat was a hot seller. I can see why. Not only is it incredibly soft and light, it's edged with a luxurious faux fur "ruffle". Talbot offers one piece that looks like a cozy fleece vest under a down jacket. Easy on, easy off, and great looking as well.

Homebase: New York, NY DESIGNER: Sophie Jaworski Sizes for coats: 2 to 16 years; Wholesale prices for coats: $75-$145 One of the hot textiles this season is lush faux fur with a long-haired, bohemian feeling. Jaworski calls it "Peacock"; other designers dub the material "badger"; one called it "hippie stuff". Regardless of its name, it has a playful quality while still being "couture". Outstanding Piece: The Peacock coat. Some designers used the fur for a decorative edge on a collar or hat. Jaworski went for broke. And it works!
