Between the Shows: December 23, 2008 Editor's Note: Some of our sponsor companies prefer to keep their children's businesses out of the national and regional trade show circuits (or at least not attend all the shows every season). ANDY & BELLA Homebase: Brooklyn, NY DESIGNERS: Melissa Bell and Sandy Clayton Sizes: NB to 12 years; Wholesale prices: $12-$17 Most of us love the look of tattoos, but when it comes to a long-term relationship, we're commitment phobic. That's the case with Sandy Clayton and Melissa Bell, partners in the recently launched Andy & Bella collection of T-shirts. Bell, a former mortgage broker, and Clayton, a fashion and graphic designer, are "huge fans of tattoos, but being fashionistas we'd never commit to a permanent one that we couldn't take off and change with each outfit!" In a market already crowded with T-shirt collections, the designers' "tees with tatts" is a hit. In addition to a high-quality cotton top (some styles are available in organic cotton), an attractive dusty palette, and edgy screen-printed designs, retailers love the duos concept: team the tees with a page of wash-off tattoos. Children are wild for the graphics and love covering their arms and legs with the brightly colored motifs.
