In accordance with the fiscal calendar observed by most retailers, last year's fiscal January was comprised of 5 weeks. As this disparity makes it difficult to compare year-over-year sales results directly some companies have excluded the extra week from the previously announced prior year results. Accordingly, net sales reported below for January 2001 reflect either 4 or 5 weeks activity, depending upon whether the retailer restated last year's results. The table below compares these results to last year's numbers for each company, according to press releases from today and earlier this month.
