The January 2008 Children's Club: New Exhibitors - Part I As always, I like to break up the column into two groups: 'new exhibitors' (two years and under) and the 'establishment'. In the first category, these are some of the ones that stood out this season at Children's Club (January 6-8, 2008).
7 A.M. ENFANT Urban, functional, and highly technical products for babies and children (also keeping in mind the needs of today's parents) Designer: Rebecca Campora Sizes: Newborn - Preschool Wholesale: $67.50 - $90 Standouts: The brand new Voyage diaper bag which opens on one side, has two big pockets, adjustable straps, a changing pad and an insulated compartment; the versatile Pookie Poncho which covers the baby and can also be used over a baby carrier, baby stroller, or to cover car seats; the Duo Blanket which is perfect for twins or siblings.
FYI: The French born designer (who has contagious enthusiasm for her product and for life) admits to "always thinking" about new 'inventions' and promises to never run out of ideas for future products. PENELOPE PEAPOD Old fashioned, classic, and fun toys for imaginative girls on the go Designer: Shelagh Herzog Ages: 5 - 8 Wholesale: $9 - $23 Standouts: The new accessories (high chair, baby, bassinet stand, changing table, plush toys, rag dolls) which coordinate with the original product (the doll in the bag); the sweet and nostalgic Liberty of London prints (which are their best sellers). FYI: Penelope Peapod is the winner of the Oppenheim Toy Platinum Award and the line of products is now sold in more than 800 stores across the country. LAURA V. Colorful clothing and accessories with a decidedly South American vibe Designer: Clarence Acosta de Vinas Ages: 4 - 14 Wholesale: $5 - $15 Standouts: The whimsical and colorful bags, necklaces, bracelets, and key chains, many of which are decorated with butterflies, flowers, and beads. (They are made from the 'fique' plant, which is indigenous to Colombia, and then painted with natural dyes). FYI: Everything is made and designed in Colombia (where it's summer year round and where she is the "leading brand". Miss de Vinas has 17 stores in Colombia, one in Brazil, and is planning to open in Los Angeles sometime in the future.
