October 2009 Children's Club: Newcomers for Spring/Summer 2010 - Part I New doesn't always mean, 'improved', but one can argue that it certainly applies to many of the new exhibitors who participated in the ENK Children's Club (October 4-6, 2009). These are some who especially caught me eye:
Cutie Pa Tutus Tulle tutus and magic wands Designer: Amanda Moreno Duke Wholesale: $20 Sizes: 6 m - size 8 Standouts: The tulle tutus available in assortment of delicious colors, which are embellished with pom poms and such girlie items as glittery fairies, high heels, perfume bottles, and more; the colorful tulle and pom pom magic wands FYI: Ms. Duke founded the company in 2008 after she couldn't find a tutu for her young daughter's first 'princess party'. She designed her own and the reaction was so overwhelming, she realized there was a market for these adorable skirts. The company's tag line is "A whole new 'spin' on tutus". Creative Clips by Colleen Fun, novelty hair accessories for little girls Designer: Colleen Connon Wholesale: $3.95 - $6 Standouts: The large hot pink bow, large red dragonfly, large yellow butterfly clips; the small cupcake with leopard print heart clips (the clips have Velcro closures so they don't come off, even on the finest hair); the marabou and peacock feather trimmed headbands. FYI: Ms. Connon began making hair clips for her young daughters when she couldn't find any to her liking (and because of their fine hair, none would stay put); they immediately became popular and now, are being sold in the U.S., Canada, the UK, and Spain. Celebrity daughters (Halle Berry, Denise Richards, Jennifer Garner, Nicole Ritchie to name a few), have been photographed wearing some of the adorable designs. Town Togs Classic and novelty neckties for kids and adults Designer: Christina Merrill Ages: 8 years and older Wholesale: $15 - $25 Standouts: The kids' zipper ties (in classic club stripes and whimsical prints) which are adjustable and easy to put on and take off; the matching father and son program (sports themes like football, baseball and hockey are most popular) FYI: They are mainly polyester and washable, so doctors love them because they help reduce the spread of germs (and they have a special grouping for them); 20% of each purchase goes to The Bone Marrow Foundation's Pediatric Patient Aid Program which supports children with cancer and other life threatening diseases. Double Happiness Colorful, whimsically printed and patterned, novelty storage tins Designer: Bryn Craven Wholesale: $7 - $12 Standouts: The 'Girlie Girl' collection ('Couture', 'Peace of Candy', 'Queen for a Day'; The 'Tough Guy' (Hot Rods, Robots); the retro 'Good Sports' collection; the Pre-filled Tins and Lollipop Bouquets, which make the perfect gift for any occasion FYI: Ms. Craven is the mother of two sets of twins (hence, the name 'double happiness') and she was inspired to create a line of fabulous looking storage products because she had so much stuff that necessitated attractive storage. The tins are available as washtubs and buckets, in 4 sizes and in 7 different shapes and patterns; "Give your stuff a nicer home" is their tag line. Butterscotch Blankees Personalized baby blankets Designer: Jodie Roth Wholesale: $62 Standouts: The clean, classic and timeless letter monograms; the monograms and names with oversized polka dots; the sports themed designs (football, baseball) FYI: Everything can be monogrammed and personalized. There are 9 different graphic designs to choose from, 15 colors, and 6 fonts (none of which are "cutesy" or "childlike" because Ms. Roth's aesthetic is the opposite, and in fact, they are sophisticated and chic); the line is called Butterscotch Blankees because the gift packaging consists of butterscotch foil paper tied with bronze tulle ribbon on the ends.
