March 2010 Children's Club: The 'Ideas' of March As many (if not all) of you know, I wear many 'hats'. In addition to being a Contributing Editor for JamesGirone.com, I am also the editor in chief of lookonline.com. As a longtime fashion editor, I love nothing more than linking the trends found in the adult market, with those for the kids (from newborns to tweens). And so, with that in mind, (and in random order), these are some of the most important trends for Fall 2010, that played out during the course of the recent international ready to wear Fall 2010 collections, and their 'counterparts' which I found at the recent ENK Children's Club Show (March 7-9, 2010).
Balmain Go for the gold: Certain things, like silver and especially gold (especially with the recent Winter Olympics still in mind), will always rule!
Boy by Band of Outsiders Olive (not so) drab: Military inspired standard issue olive drab is anything but drab these days; and it's the perfect neutral.
Chanel Beasty Boys (and girls): Talk about the return of the Abominable Snowman! Shaggy, long haired furs, real and faux, especially in arctic white, were seen all over the runways.
Marc Jacobs 'Clear' View: It's SO transparent; see thru plastics add fun and interest to the simplest of items (bags, shoes, even coats).
Balenciaga Stripe it rich: Graphic stripes in unexpectedly bright or pastel shades look especially good for fall.
Tommy Hilfiger "Tie me up, Tie me down": Lace up shoes, and especially boots, never lose their appeal but this season, they were literally stomping all over the runways.
Dolce & Gabbana 'Spotted' Fever: The familiar spots found on cheetahs and leopards, have become so downright ubiquitous and popular, they are definitely 'classics'.
Tory Burch 'Hood' winked: Hoods, as part of an outfit, or as a separate item, from wool to fur, were all over.
Maison Martin Margiela 'Head' Trip: Forget about earflap hats; the newest versions (which look as though they are literally part of an animal) are so exaggerated they literally envelope the entire head and are sure to keep you warm this winter.
Chado Ralph Rucci Simply 'Shocking': Shocking pink, especially when paired with black, always makes a statement.
Givenchy 'Red' Alert: Is there anything that makes more of an impact than red, whether head to toe, or used as an accent?
Dennis Basso "See you later alligator ": Whether real, rare and expensive, or realistic faux versions, exotic leathers like alligator and crocodile, used for accessories or outerwear, rock!
Doo.Ri Get 'stoned': Stones, beads, sequins, crystals and all manner of embellishments turned up in myriad incarnations.
Michael Kors The 'new' black: Nothing can take its place but shades of gray look mighty good and were all over the runways!
Junya Watanabe 'Poncho' Villa: Voluminous capes and ponchos emerged as the new cover-up of choice.
Chanel Mixed Media: Highly textural, eccentric, loopy knits (often with fringe trim) were found in clothing and accessories and sometimes appeared to be 3D.
Ralph Lauren A flower for all seasons: Flowers are not just for spring and summer, and floral prints or embellishments showed up on numerous runways.
Chanel Slush 'fun': The newest waterproof boots (some look like a mixture of a pump and a boot) are so engaging, you will pray for rain, sleet, and snow.
Junya Watanabe "You can run, but you cannot hide": Camouflage prints, which never disappear, will always make you stand out!
Louis Vuitton 'Bow' Bridges: Bows have always decorated everything, from ready to wear to accessories, and from the look of things, the bigger the better this season.
Manish Arora It's 'Robotic': Androids and robots are not for kids only, as proved on recent runways.
