Former nurse opens Baby Mama Boutique in Athens, GA

December 11, 2019 – Athens Banner-Herald – Karen Mahoney has always loved babies.

She worked as a postpartum nurse for seven years before her children were born and did not want to go back to the hospital full-time afterward. Since there were not many maternity and baby stores in the area, she decided to open Baby Mama Boutique.

“I’ve always wanted to [work with babies] even when I was in school,” said Mahoney. “That’s why I decided to do postpartum nursing. I just love the babies and helping the moms and its such a happy time for the most part.”

Baby Mama Boutique is a shop by mothers for mothers. The store’s general manager also has her own children. But what Mahoney feels really sets Baby Mama Boutique apart is her nursing experience.

“Being that I am a postpartum RN, I feel like I am knowledgeable about certain products and what’s best for the babies, what’s best for the moms and, instead of a regular store employee that would be working in a Babies R Us or something like that, I have the experience and went to school for five years to know all about it,” said Mahoney.
